art basel marangoni

That time of the year has arrived – Art Basel took place in Miami and “artified” the world scene one more time for 2023!

Let’s have a quick look at the Art Basel chronicles of one of the most prolific fashion schools in the world, Istituto Marangoni Miami!

Thursday, Nov. 30th – A Book Signing Event to Remember – FRANCISCO COSTA

Istituto Marangoni Miami (IMM) kicked off winter-bird-season by celebrating the latest achievement of one of its founding Advisory Board members, Francisco Costa. The event featured an engaging conversation with Eva Hughes, Executive VP of IMM, about Costa’s career, vision for entrepreneurship, and beauty. Hosted by Hakan Baykam, IMM Advisory Board Member Maria Buccellati, and Hassan Pierre, the event included a reception and signing of Costa’s new book “555: Revisiting The Fashion Archive of Francisco Costa” published by Rizzoli.
Tuesday, Dec. 5th – Talking Sustainability and Design – MELISSA & VOGUE BRAZIL
During another thought-provoking conversation, Vogue Brazil’s Culture & Lifestyle editor, Nô Mello, and Grendene Global Brands’s CMO -parent company of Melissa shoes-, Kate Minner, spoke about the transformative impact of innovation on the footwear industry’s sustainability paradigm with Executive VP, Eva Hughes

The evening ended with a cocktail reception, during which Amy Berkowitz, leader of IMM’s competitions, announced a design competition with the iconic Brazilian brand, Melissa. The winner will get to experience overseas, with more details to follow.
Wednesday, Dec. 6th – On Great Italian Design  – KARTELL USA
Dr. Thelma Lazo Flores, the Dean of IMM’s Interior Design Program, and John J. Jenkin, the CEO of Kartell USA, engaged in a conversation exploring the transformative influence of furniture design in shaping environments into meaningful spaces, alongside a discussion on the enduring impact of Italian design. At the end of the conversation, Dr. Lazo Flores announced the first Interior Design competition of its size, with the global giant Kartell, for next year. More details will follow.

After the announcement, the Interior Design and architecture community, alongside students, faculty, and staff, celebrated on IMM’s terrace with outdoor furniture and lamps by Kartell.
Friday, Dec. 8th – On Great Italian Design  – KID CUDI, MOTR, THE WEBSTER

On Friday, December 8th, Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, also known as Kid Cudi, visited the school to conduct a creative workshop for a select group of students. He shared the story of how he came up with his brand and pitched a new capsule collection to the group. Students created T-shirts inspired by his vision after putting mood boards together and receiving feedback from the artist.
Following the workshop, Keanan Duffty, IMM’s Dean of Fashion, moderated a panel discussion between Scott and Advisory Board Member Laure Hériard Dubreuil, founder of The Webster. The IMM community and high school students from all over the city witnessed a fascinating conversation about the intersection of retail and the arts.
The panel ended on an emotional note, as Michael Allen Johnson, IMM’s AVP of Academics, awarded Scott with an Honorary Master’s Degree in Fashion Design as the first graduate from the program, dressed in a cap and gown customized by IMM Fashion Design students.
The night ended with a private cocktail of epic proportions, with Scott’s long friend, DJ A-Trak, taking over the fifth floor terrace.
Members of the Rage, Kid Cudi’s fashion line, donated merchandise from its latest collection for a pop-up at IMM, and all proceeds are going to the school’s scholarship fund.
The pop-up will be open for the public until the end of the year.
