ON THE OCCASION OF THE MILANO DESIGN WEEK 2024, MOIRÉ GALLERY MILANO HAS INAUGURATED THE NEW “SERICO” EXHIBITION, AN ODE TO SILK IN FURNISHINGS AND DESIGN
The new exhibition is the ideal continuation of the previous one: “Journey through the history of silk”. In addition to the world of fashion and art, with which the Gallery in Via Borgonuovo began the exploration of silk, “SERICO” continues the journey through the ancient and precious fabric also in the world of design and furniture.
Moiré Gallery Milano, concept store and art, fashion and design gallery in Via Borgonuovo 5, on the occasion of the Fuorisalone 2024, has inaugurated “SERICO”. The new exhibition is the ideal continuation of the previous one: “Journey through the history of silk”. In addition to the world of fashion and art, with which the Gallery in Via Borgonuovo began the expressive exploration of the ancient and precious fabric, the journey continues with a declination also in the world of design and furniture.
«SERICO – explains the curator and founder of Moiré Gallery Milano, Ouafa Lotfi Tahoun – is the completion of the previous path: a journey, a research, an immersion in the infinite variations of silk. A dialogue among fashion, art and design that puts the ancient fabric and its different types at the center, in particular the moiré silk, with a wavy and furrowed effect like the veins of marble and the streaks of wood, to which the name of my gallery is dedicated to».
The new “SERICO” exhibition presents the unpublished poufs by Filippo Ghezzani, special edition for Moiré Gallery, covered in bourette silk by Asnaghi Tessuti, a historic workshop in Milan, the precious handmade silk carpets by Jaipur Rugs, hanging on the walls such as ancient and precious tapestries and a upcycled chaise longue in shantung silk, created exclusively for the new exhibition.
On the walls, Tita‘s works among which “Silk City” stands out, a majestic work of art created with very fine strips of silk that run and mix on the canvas like intense brushstrokes of colour. Also on the walls, the works of Narji-studio with its triptychs in precious green and coral moiré silk and the three-dimensional work “Bourette Flower”. Furthermore, the works of Nicolas Denino, Simona Tavassi and Arnaud Nazare-Aga are on display.
There is also a tribute to the world of fashion with the new line of “size free” skirts in precious moiré silk designed by the founder of the Gallery herself, the handcrafted kimonos by Tearose Milano and a selection of garments by Luisa Beccaria, Valentino, Fendi, Hermès and Irama de Flore which celebrate the different facets of silk. The selection is constantly updated thanks to the inclusion of ever new pieces, garments and maisons. Everything is immersed in an impactful scenography, a suggestive setting, in which everything is silky, elegant and sophisticated.
The new installation, which explores the three worlds – art, fashion and design – through silk, is an ode, a tribute, a delicate and enveloping journey that promises an immersion in the folds of a thousand-year-old fabric, capable of enchanting and seducing with its timeless grace.
“SERICO” wants to pay homage to an ancient history, whose roots lie in distant times and places, in fascinating and centuries-old legends. Tradition has it, in fact, that the birth of silk production took place in 3000 BC in China, thanks to a lucky episode that happened to Empress Xi Ling Shi, wife of the famous Yellow Emperor, who, sipping a hot tea in the shade of a mulberry tree, saw a silk cocoon fall into her cup. Thanks to the heat of her drink, the Empress managed to unravel the cocoon and obtain the precious thread, thus giving rise to the art of silk.
The exhibition is the celebration of a story that tells of merchants and discoveries, of travels and cultural contaminations, of relationships woven between distant lands, where the thin thread of silk becomes the bond among people and civilizations. A story that necessarily passes through the figure of the famous 13th century Venetian explorer, Marco Polo, whose demise is commemorated this year, marking his 700th anniversary. The Italian traveler, writer, ambassador and merchant is credited with having traveled to distant countries, having established commercial relationships with remote and millenary cultures and having contributed, thanks to his book “Il Milione”, to arouse great interest in the wonders of the East, including, above all, silk, the most precious and noble of fabrics.
