After 50 years of dedication to fashion , Jean Paul Gaultier decided to retire from the field that represented his universe. Half of century of inspiration, ideas, imagination and fashion magic celebrated at Châtelet Theatre in his Spring-Summer 2020 Haute Couture show .
Top models, celebrities and stars ( Irina Shayk, Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Birgit Kos, Liu Wen, Anna Pawlowski , Raya Martigny, Alexina Graham , Dita Von Teese, Germain Louvet , Rossy de Palma , Yasmin Le Bon, Erin O’Connor, Estelle Lefébure, Lais Ribeiro, Fatou Jobe , Winnie Harlow, Amanda Lear and many others) catwalked for Gaultier’s final show in front of a numerous public of celebrities and friends of Jean Paul ( Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Simon Le Bon, Sonam Kapoor, Gaultier’s former intern Nicolas Ghesquière, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, Isabel Marant, Christian Louboutin, Paco Rabanne’s Julien Dossena, Mary Katrantzou, Christian Lacroix, Dries Van Noten—and was that the ever-so-reclusive Martin Margiela ).
The collection included not less than 200 colourful, fun and avangardist (let’s remember Madonna’s conical bra for her 1990 Blonde Ambition Tour ) and high-fashion looks celebrating the Gaultier vision. Since his first show in 1976, the designer took his inspiration from the streets so that his designs would address since then to beauty in diversity and sustainabilty, popular concepts in fashion nowadays.
A show, a true spectacle, real magic on the runway! Words are not enough to express the complexity. All that can be said is that we are happy to have witnessed one more time to an act of art creation and realize why we all love fashion so much.
Thank you, Jean Paul Gaultier! You gave us 50 years of magic!
