17th of January 2023, Paris, France – Saint Laurent Men Winter 2023 collection by Anthony Vacarello was presented in Paris yesterday in front of a vast public of stars who came to see the collection and show.
Actors like Jenna Ortega, Charlotte Gainsbourg who serenaded the entire show at piano, Laura Harrier, Coile Ray and supermodels like Alek Wek and Shalom Harlow joined the glamorous and gothic Saint Laurent event.
It was a triumphant homecoming show in Paris where creative director Anthony Vacarello used the occassion to introduce a dark, gothic glamour to this ultra-sharp Yves Saint Laurent menswear.
The creations were minimalist, chic and sleek with lean lines and the star colour of the collection was black. The collection is marked by the theme of genderless designs which aim to make any silhouette, man or woman, stand out from the crowd.
“I really want them to be almost one person,” he said. “So women could be the men, and the men could be the women. No difference. I want more and more to put them at the same level. No distinction.” – Anthony Vacarello
Anthony Vaccarello ‘s intention was to define the notion of what drop-dead elegance means to people of his own generation. In material terms, that would be defined by dark, vertical, narrow coats; black leather and velvet; necks exaggeratedly tied in flourishing bows or sunk funnel-necks; the cool, tailored swagger of Smoking jackets, the cache-coeur drape of tops and chest-revealing cowl-front silk shirts that plunge into wrapped cummerbunds.
Vaccarello’s brilliance in design, precision and cut turned out to be a true Saint Laurent on-brand orchestration and a resonantly relevant step forward for the designer too.
