Did you get your BALMAIN passport?

Going to the moon? Going to the space?

“I don’t know where we’re going, but I do know that we are going somewhere. The point is not the destination but the actual going; the journey, the living – and the escape.” explains the talented Olivier Rousteing, the creative director of the Balmain House. A strong message that resonates in each of us.

In a world ruled by uncertainty, after one year of pandemics, after realizing that reality as we know it could change in no time and that nothing is guaranteed in life – not even travelling and seeing our friends and families whenever we feel like – we should all start appreciating more what we have. Not necessarily the destination of a journey but the whole experience – the beauty of simply enjoying the days of our lives.

The Balmain Fall Winter 2021 Men and Women fashion show was digitally broadcasted on the 8th of March during Paris Fashion Week and proposed the concept “Destination : Above & Beyond”.

Shot at the Air France hangars at Paris-Charles de Gaulle in and around an Air France airplane, the video inspires the general desire of travelling and it refers to freedom which can be regained through the power of travel.

Balmain – Above and Beyond is applauding Pierre Balmain – the great founder of the house, who seventy-five years ago, after the success of his first couture presentation, started travelling to the United States to bring glimpses of the French “savoir-faire” in fashion and then continued his mission of exporting his brand’s triumph worldwide.

While preserving the French touch, the collection is inspired by the post-war Parisian fashion and by the uniforms of early flight pioneers: pilots and astronauts. Besides the amazing, softened suits with fluorescent reveres, the accessories are a particularly important part of the Balmain FW21 collection.

One of the highlights is the new soft “Pillow” carry-on bag available in many different fabrics and colors, followed by the structured carry-ons covered in the Pierre Balmain monogram and the neon leather airplane shaped bags.

Rousteing expresses his hopes for the better future ahead of us revealing the message of his collection: “ The word I would use for this collection is ‘nonchalance’. It’s not a loungewear collection – I don’t believe we’ll all be wearing pyjamas in six months – but I believe in a world where we’ll want to have the most beautiful coat, suit and suitcase, and jump on a flight to see our friends.”

The moon in the video stands for a promise from the Balmain House to keep looking forward to the “future lunar runways”.

The Balmain Airlines still welcome you aboard … so get ready to embark upon the journey of the Balmain FW21 show and watch the film directed by Valentin Petit on the official Balmain website – www.balmain.com – or the official Balmain Instagram account.
