Editorial of the month – “Art of Fashion Week”

“The Art of Fashion Week” … the new FM24 editorial of the month comes in the form of an art illustrations series inspired by the ongoing Fashion Weeks happening all around the world.

The “artorial” is created by Slovakian artist Ján Juhaniak exclusively for FM24 and represents a series of collages inspired by historical fashion shows made from modern art components.

With a retro/vintage aesthetics mixed with historical photographs, Ján Juhaniak creates a new wave type of art content using a combination of abstract elements which should evoke a runaway with models doing their catwalk.

The runway is actually a central element of the editorial story while the fashion models stand out from the crowd by the use of a playful aesthetics representation surrounded by colourful neoplasm.

About the artist: Ján Juhaniak is a graduate of the Academy of Arts in Slovakia, Studio of Classical Painting Disciplines. During his studies he took part in several educational and work programs in the Brussels and Paris. The artist uses the instruments of collage or assembly to express the notions of exaggeration, humor, but also subversion and visual expression of social or cultural phenomena. A collage is a form of an assisted readymade which uses pre-existing (technical) imagery which was not meant to be used in this constellation. By combining and joining different images the theme of reflecting reality is transformed into a theme of reflecting subjective, artistic views of this (un)reality. An important part of both the technique and the exhibition as a whole is the notion of a relationship. Such a borderline correlation is specifically suggested by the “cut” which does not represent separation but is rather viewed as a joining instrument that merges different images into a new piece of art. A collage is supposed to create a new meaning which is not necessarily included in the individual parts the final work consists of, but is created by their relationship – their mutual confrontational position.
