Legendary fashion icon, Iris Apfel, is turning 100 years old. A spectacular life dedicated to beauty, fashion and design that has spread its wings over a century.
Born in Queens, New York City on 29th of August 2021 as the single child of Samuel Barrel and his Russian wife, Sadye, who was the owner of a fashion boutique, Iris Apfel caught the taste of fashion since childhood when she used to shop in the antique shops from Greenwich Village and started her amazing collection of jewelry from around the world.
In love with art and beauty, Iris went on to develop her passion and attended the art history section at New York University and art school at the University of Wisconsin. As a young lady Iris Apfel has worked as a copy girl for Women’s Wear Daily, for the interior designer Elinor Johnson and as an assistant for illustrator Robert Goodman.
In 1948, the fashion icon has married Carl Apfel and two years later the couple has launched the texile company Old World Weavers specialized in fabric reproductions of the 17th,18th and 18th centuries. During her career she has also been part in several design restoration projects which have also included work at the White House over nine presidencies.
In the more recent years, Iris Apfel’s career became wider and wider with activities ranging from textiles and apparel professor at the University of Texas, businesswoman for Smart Jewelry and technology startup WiseWear, publisher for her biography “Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon” and top model signed in 2019 at 97 years old with the famous IMG Models Agency.
A legendary fashion icon whose presence has been constant in the worldwide fashion, Iris Apfel is continuing to grow and inspire generations of fashion, beauty and art lovers with her vibrant, unique presence and colourful and accesorized fashion style on and off screen.
Today for her 100 years old birthday we feel honoured to have had the opportunity to wish Iris Apfel the most unique “Happy Birthday!” in the history of fashion and dedicate our greatest admiration to the legend that she was, is and will continue to be!
