October 2022, Paris, France – The Passage Richelieu from Louvre Museum arranged in dozens of chandeliers is getting ready to be the top host for the Spring-Summer 2022 Louis Vuitton collection proposed by the art director of the brand, Nicolas Ghesquière .
The show marks an important moment in the history of the brand, the 200th birthday of the house’s founder, Louis Vuitton. Presented in a place where the founder was having regular encounters with Empress Eugénie for whom he was the exclusive trunk maker, the collection comes with designs that mix past references with juxtaposing surprising ellements to create “nowadays” looks.
With shades of Paul Poiret and Erté in these looks, beaded headpieces, art nouveau sunglasses, sumptuous, elaborately embellished dresses girded at the hips in the 19th-century style with weighed down with underskirts Ghesquière creates a real time-traveling experience.
As he declared – “I like the figure of a vampire who travels through the ages, adapting to dress codes of the era” his press release read.
A protester carrying a sign that read “Overconsumption = Extinction” made it to the end of the runway bumping up against the show fairy tale. Still, the unique Ghesquière show kept its glow which merged the past fashion with the nowadays trendy codes for an iconic SS22 collection.
